You gotta be in their shoes…
Now I finally understand why the "westerners" have difficulties of getting up in the morning or only take a bath once a week (they shower more frequently though). It’s an understanding you’ll get better if you’re in their shoes.
It’s so bloody cold here, for me anyway (now I’m startin to sound like these English blokes…Ow Mah Gahd!). The water is cold, the rain and the wind are chilling to the bones (Indonesian bones are definitely not made up for cold winter), and living on the 13th floor of my accommodation tower is definitely not helping either.
Anyway, there you have it. Mutual understanding and compassion for other sometimes require the sacrifice of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. Could it be the secret of peace and understanding of mankind is only as simple as this?
Can you imagine the US president living with a normal Iraqi for a week in Iraq? Or Jack Straw trying to weear the veil AND skimpy clothing afterwards in Arabian countries? Or Israeli’s PM living with normal Palestinian family for a month (I think it’ll take him longer to really feel the shoes!) and Sri Lankan President to commune with the Tamil for a week and the Tamil fighters to feel how it’s like to run the country, etc.
You might say, "You wish, Jar!". Hey…there’s nothing wrong of thinking that the solution for the most complex human problems is a simple thing like that. The holy day of Moslems and Christians are coming, so who knows, if we all pray and work really hard, we might just get what we’ve been praying and working for.

Sepatu lu kan panjangnya lebih dari muka Telie, Jar (rasa-rasanya dulu kita pernah melakukan kebodohan ini: membandingkan panjang sepatu lu dengan panjang muka Telie. Betul2 bodoh, kalo diinget lagi :D).
So, if i’m in your shoes, it’s gotta be way too big for me, and my shoes is way too small for you. We definitely shouldn’t trade shoes. Ehehehe…
Pasti pas baca tadi langsung mikir (atau langsung teriak),”Nikeeeen, ngerti ga sih maksudnya ‘gotta be in their shoes’… Anak ini…Hiiih!”
Ngerti, kok, ngerti….
So, how many times a week do you take a bath? And how early do you wake up?
